Igniting Your Inner Fire: Healing the Solar Plexus Chakra for Confidence and Radiance

We all have a light inside us.
A fire that fuels our passions, our voice, our sense of self-worth.

But sometimes, life teaches us to turn that light down.
To be “nice.”
To not speak up.
To play small.

If you’ve ever felt like you couldn’t fully be yourself—or like you were burning out trying to prove yourself—you’re not alone. And there’s a reason. It has to do with your Solar Plexus Chakra, the third chakra in the yogic energy system.

In this post, we’ll explore what the Solar Plexus Chakra is, how it can get blocked, and what you can do to heal it—through movement, breath, rest, and reflection.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is known as Manipura in Sanskrit, which means “city of jewels” or “lustrous gem.” It sits in the upper abdomen, just above the navel and below the ribcage.

This chakra is your power center—the home of:

  • Confidence
  • Self-worth
  • Willpower
  • Purpose
  • Personal identity

Its element is fire, and its color is golden yellow—the radiant light of the sun. When this chakra is balanced, you feel confident in who you are and able to take action toward your goals. You stand tall in your truth and glow from the inside out.

When your Solar Plexus Chakra is underactive, you may feel:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Difficulty making decisions
  • Fear of rejection or failure
  • Lack of motivation
  • Constant self-doubt

When it’s overactive, the energy can turn fiery in a different way, showing up as:

  • Anger or control issues
  • Burnout or perfectionism
  • The need to always “do” or “achieve”
  • Overcommitting to prove your worth

In either case, the root issue is the same: a disconnection from your true inner power. That’s where Solar Plexus Chakra healing comes in.

For most of my life, I was afraid to take up space.

There was a memory that lived deep in my nervous system, shaping the way I moved through the world.

I was in junior high, the last stop on a packed school bus. Every morning, I’d climb aboard, already anxious. All the seats were taken, and I’d ask timidly if someone could scoot over. Almost always, the answer was no—or worse, a shake of the head without even looking at me.

Some mornings, a couple of boys would stick their feet out into the aisle to trip me. I’d fall to my knees, and the entire bus would erupt in laughter.

Then the bus driver would yell, “Sit down already!” Cheeks burning, trying not to cry, crumpled up on the floor of the bus—I just wanted to disappear.

That repeated experience taught me that asking was dangerous. That being seen meant being humiliated. I started to believe:

“If I speak up, I’ll be shut down.”
“If I shine, I’ll be made fun of.”
“It’s safer to stay small.”

It wasn’t until 40 years later, while working with a somatic yoga life coach, that I connected the dots. That memory had become my inner story—running quietly in the background, influencing everything from my personal relationships to how I showed up in my business.

But here’s what I learned:

  • That story isn’t true anymore.
  • I’m not that girl on the bus.
  • And I don’t have to hide to be safe.

The moment I let go of that old belief, something shifted. I started standing taller. Speaking with more clarity. Creating from a place of self-trust. That’s the power of healing your Solar Plexus Chakra. And it’s a journey available to all of us.

In chakra philosophy, every energy center has both shadow and light expressions—patterns that show up when we are disconnected, and patterns that arise when we’re in balance.

This archetype stands tall with confidence and clarity. The Warrior knows their boundaries and leads with inner strength. They do not dim their light to make others comfortable.

When we do Solar Plexus Chakra healing, we move from the Servant to the Warrior—from fear to courage, from people-pleasing to self-trust.

Spring is a natural time to work with the Solar Plexus Chakra. As the days grow longer and the sun returns, we feel a rise in energy and motivation. Nature reminds us that it’s safe to come out of hibernation and start taking action again.

It’s time to bloom. To grow. To radiate.

Just like the sun melts away the cold of winter, you can melt away the self-doubt and stories that no longer serve you. Let your inner fire match the warmth of the season.

You don’t need a complicated ritual to begin healing your Solar Plexus Chakra. Small, consistent practices can help you reconnect with your power.

Here are a few ways to start:

Try this simple breathing pattern:

Inhale through your nose for 3 counts
Exhale
out the mouth, slow and complete

As you breathe, imagine a golden flame glowing in your belly. Each inhale feeds it. Each exhale clears away anything that dims your light.

Repeat for 1-3 minutes.

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that helps you reach deep states of rest and awareness. In my Solar Plexus Yoga Nidra, you’ll visualize golden light, meet your inner Warrior, and rest on a mountaintop at sunrise—reclaiming your voice, your confidence, and your worth.

Your physical posture affects your energy. To support your Solar Plexus:

  • Practice core-strengthening movements like plank or boat pose
  • Stand in Mountain Pose with hands on hips, chest lifted
  • Take up space—literally. Stretch your arms wide and breathe deeply. (This is something we work on in Somatic Yoga. Contact me if you want to explore Somatic Yoga with me.)

Your body remembers. Teach it what power feels like.

Writing can help you uncover the beliefs and patterns that have shaped your relationship with power.

  • When have I felt most confident and alive?
  • What old stories or memories hold me back from standing in my power?
  • Where in my life am I dimming my light to stay safe or accepted?
  • What would it look like to own my voice fully?

You don’t need to edit your answers. Just write. Let the truth rise.

A Sankalpa is a heart-centered intention that plants new seeds in your subconscious.

I honor my power. I trust my inner fire. I radiate confidence and purpose.”

Let it become your internal mantra. Speak it in the mirror. Whisper it before sleep. Let it live in your belly like a steady sun.

If you’ve ever been told you’re too loud, too ambitious, too much—
If you’ve ever over-given until there was nothing left—
If you’ve ever played small because it felt safer than shining…

This is your reminder:

  • You are powerful.
  • You are radiant.
  • You are enough.

You don’t have to wait for someone to give you permission to rise.
You already carry the sun within you.

Let this be the season you burn away self-doubt and let your light lead the way.
